As the mid-range coupe in the BMW stable, the 4 Series offers a balance of the 2 Series’ impressive balance and the 6 Series lauded luxury and acceleration. But for the 2017 model year, those factors have been further bolstered thanks to two new engines. Already an all-star athlete, the coupe, convertible, and Gran Turismo will be more fun to drive than ever.
The new engines are a turbocharged inline-four and inline-six that come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and optional six-speed manual. The base inline-four makes 248 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of twist, while the inline-six raises the bar to 320 horses and 330 lb-ft of torque. What hasn’t changed is the 4 Series’ impressive handling and engagement. Based off the lauded 3 Series, it’s road manners strike a balance of lively and smooth.
