There seems to be a smartphone app for everything these days, and while some are arguably better than others, there are few automotive applications that really shine. BMW looks to change this, though, with its new M Power App, which lets those with both one of the automaker's high-performance M Division vehicles and an iPhone (sorry, Android devotees) record their car's performance on either the street or the racetrack.
Iif you've ever wanted to see how fast your car can take a series of hairpin turns, now's your chance.
Launched at the same time as the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the app offers some pretty cool insight into just how capable its finely tuned powerhouses truly are. The app records data from in-car sensors and transmits this information to a map that shows acceleration and braking, offering accurate real-time data that simply couldn't be easily gathered before. You can even see direct performance comparisons, letting you track improvements in your skills over time, or making it easy for you and your friends have a little friendly competition.
The app lets drivers focus on the details of their performance, allowing them to access a line graph that compares:
- Brake and throttle inputs
- G-forces
- Fuel economy
- Engine speed
If you own a BMW M model and an iPhone, then we highly encourage you to try out this interesting tool when it becomes available on the iTunes store.
