There's a new series of vehicles from BMW and they're already taking the world by storm. Currently with an electric and plug-in hybrid option available, in the form of the i3 and the i8, the automaker has also taken the names i1 through i9; that means, without a doubt, there's still a lot of incredible things to come. But what about those two that are already out? Are they as amazing as we could have expected?
Well, we'll give you a clue: the i8 is reported to already be sold out for the entire year's production run.
BMW's global sales chief Ian Robertson was reported to have said the i8 sports coupe has, in fact, already sold out completely. Offering the gorgeous looks of a true sports car and the performance we could only expect from BMW, it's no surprise how popular it already is, well before its actual release.
Powered by a TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder 1.5-liter engine paired up with a 96-kilowatt electric motor, the i8 can flex some serious automotive muscle. Combined, the coupe hits 362 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of neck-snapping torque, reaching 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. And, best of all, it waves bye-bye to the pumps with an estimated 94 miles per gallon.
However, a report from the folks at Car and Driver has said that Robertson's statement isn't entirely true; his claim was based on sales projections, not actual orders taken, so there may still be a chance for you to get your order in! If we were you, and you have $135,700 to spare (not including destination fee), we'd act fast before it's really too late.
