Within the current offerings in the BMW of Salem showroom there are no vehicles with a front-wheel drive platform. However, this is about to change, as the brand has nearly finished development on a new compact family vehicle with this drive system.
The BMW 2-series Active Tourer was recently spotted with no camouflage, opening our eyes up to the vehicle that will enter our Salem, Oregon showroom sometime in 2015.
The design for this new BMW greatly resembles the Active Tourer concepts that we saw revealed at past auto shows. In addition, we know this model will be a family oriented compact and practical vehicle, with plenty of space for everyday use.
The platform the new Active Tourer will be built on is the same as that used in third-generation Mini vehicles, and it has been reported additional front-wheel models will follow suit.
A new BMW engine lineup will power the Active Tourer, with a slew of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel motors being available. Mini will most likely lend their 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine for the base model, and a tweaked 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder will be available on higher trims.
Lastly, it was confirmed a six-speed manual transmission will be offered, and most likely a six-speed manual. The Active Tourer will also have an option of all-wheel drive for those who need more than just the front-wheel format.
Make sure you keep in the loop here on our blog as the Active Tourer is released in Europe next summer and then here at BMW of Salem shortly after.
