We've all been there.  You're talking on your smartphone, while simultaneously confirming your dinner plans via email, and suddenly, you lose your grip and your device summersaults until it ends up face down on the gritty sidewalk.  Grimacing, you pick it up, and inspect it for damage.  Luckily, there is none, and you breathe a sigh of relief and continue on your way.  How did you manage to escape a future spent viewing Instagram through scratches and cracks?  Gorilla Glass, that's how.

Gorilla Glass is a chemically-hardened compound that is much stronger than traditional glass and is 100% scratch-resistant.  It's proven to be very useful in smartphones, and now, BMW is using it in its all-new and incredibly innovative BMW i8 plug-in hybrid supercar.

Gorilla Glass will be used on the rear windshield of the i8, but not for the reason you may think; it will act as a sound deadening material, as the material has been found to have unique sound-proofing qualities.

The high-powered eco-friendly vehicle will make its official debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, and we can't wait to see what other unique materials and features it will boast.

If you have any questions about the i8, or want to learn more about the new luxury vehicles that we sell here at BMW of Salem, don't hesitate to contact our team by phone or online contact form, or, simply stop by our Salem, OR dealership during regular business hours.
